Ray Hunt Joins Two Halls of Fame

C. Raymond Hunt (1908-1978) was inducted into both the NMMA and the Marblehead Yacht Racing Halls of Fame. The Marblehead induction in 1989 was in the first group for that Hall, established at the 100th Anniversary of Marblehead Race Week. Ray was one of just 11 honorees, which included Olympic medallists, America’s Cup Winner (and sailmaker extraordinaire Ted Hood), and other world champions, past and present.

In 1992, Ray was honored again, similarly, by the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA), whose Hall of Fame was created to “recognize individuals who have or continue to generate substantial and lasting contributions toward advancement of the marine industry.” His citation includes mention of his many  racing successes, his famous sailboat designs, and his original and innovative designs that forever changed powerboat design worldwide: an “impressive legacy.”
